About us
What does Firtree Build do?
Firtree Build is a family run construction company. We deliver loft conversions, house extensions, full refurbishments and new builds for homeowners across North and East London, either taking full charge of the project or working alongside your architect or designer.
Where are you based, and where do you work?
We are based in Enfield (36 Fir Tree Walk, Enfield, EN1 3TZ) and work across North and East London, including Enfield, Winchmore Hill, Finsbury Park, Islington, Hackney and the surrounding areas.
Do you work in East London?
Yes. Alongside our North London base we take on projects across East London, including recent work near Victoria Park in Hackney. Tell us your postcode and we will confirm straight away.
Who do you work with?
Mainly homeowners planning a serious project on their own home, and architects and interior designers who want a builder they can trust with their clients. We are comfortable leading a project or delivering to someone else’s drawings.
What types of project do you take on?
Loft conversions, single and double storey extensions, rear and side return extensions, full internal refurbishments, period property restoration and ground up new builds.
Working with us
Will I get a fixed, itemised price before we start?
Yes. You get a detailed, line by line quote before any work begins, and we talk you through where costs could move so nothing catches you out later. We would rather have the honest conversation upfront than surprise you halfway through.
What happens if something changes once the build is underway?
If you want a change, or the property throws up something unexpected once we open it up, we price it and get your approval in writing before we carry it out. You stay in control of the budget the whole way through.
Can I stay in my home during the work?
Often yes, depending on the project. We keep the site clean and considerate and plan the works to keep as much of your home usable as we can. We will be straight with you about the stages where it will be disruptive.
Who will I actually deal with?
Matt. He stays personally involved from the first conversation through to handover, so you are never passed around or left chasing for answers.
Do you work from an architect's or designer's drawings?
Yes, regularly. We deliver projects to architects’ and designers’ specifications, and we are just as happy to take a project from first idea through to a finished home.
Costs and planning
How long will my project take?
It depends on the scope, but we give you a realistic programme and completion date at the quoting stage and keep you updated against it. Our trades are reliable and the site keeps moving, so the job does not stall.
Do I need planning permission?
Many extensions and loft conversions fall under permitted development and do not need a full application, but conservation areas across Enfield and North London have their own rules. We will tell you honestly which route your project is likely to need before you spend money on drawings.
Is your work guaranteed and are you insured?
We stand behind our work and back the finished project with a guarantee.
How do payments work?
Payments are staged against the work, set out clearly in your quote so you always know what is due and when.
